Photography

The beginnings of my fascination with macro photography… Taken with a Samsung S6 camera phone.

It all started when…

I look back on it now and realize the square frame format of Instagram stoked my inspiration and freed me from my innate perfectionism and self-doubt. I could easily and quickly see if an image came out the way I wanted to capture it. The more I experimented, the more I came to embrace my own artistic voice.

I’m a long-time gardener, and I always find things I want to capture, or look at more closely, in the landscape. I also live in Minnesota, where nostril hairs freeze in January, and sweat mustaches come with July; so, I witness Nature in all its seasonal forms. Everywhere I look throughout a year, I see textures and colors I want to envelope myself with. It’s visceral for me.

Themes and subjects I return to again and again include the textures of nature and landscapes in macro, stories that present themselves in one, distilled image, and the timeless beauty of subjects in black and white.
